Back Yard Escape

Landscaping needs to be an extension of the person’s house, not a separate space. That’s what Land Elements did when they created the landscaping for this West Fargo family. Because of the over-sized windows and patio doors they created a concept for the landscape design that encourages long views through the home, drawing your eye to the backyard and entertaining space which enhances the home’s whole character. Here’s a great guide on planning your perfect backyard!

The Deck

The deck was designed in a horizontal pattern using maintenance free decking materials that mirror the straight lines of craftsman style homes. Built-in planters housing colorful annuals were added to the sides of the wide, low-profile stair leading to the yard and pathway to hot-tub. They’ve re-purposed a compact recliner for an RV with an awning and it serves the rest of it’s days here as a welcoming site for a comfy read in the shade.

The Outside

Monoculture plantings were chosen to highlight features of the yard. These mass plantings build a frame for the focal water-feature in the yard, as well as placing an emphasis on the linear outcropping of concrete curb edging surrounding the home.

Water Feature

The water feature is the centerpiece of the landscape, creating a direct link to the backyard upon entering the home. Built from Cor-Ten weathered steel, the water feature rusts to create a burnt-orange patina that complements the natural color scheme of the home.
